Art and Music have been the signpost of moral clarity since the 1960’s. Miami began one of the nation’s foremost art festivals a la Coconut Grove Art Fest, in 1970 began the Art Basel era. In 1972, Miami Dade Cultural Affairs was born, to show the importance of art as an element of social progress. 1973 saw the Art Basel’s special exhibition providing galleries from all over the world, over an audience of diverse cultures. Diversity in art and music continued with the birth of Miami Goombay Festival 1976, the 80’s Orange Bowl Parade, Miami Grand Prix., 80’s-90’s, Art Deco Weekend, Marley Fest, Taste of the Grove, Calle Ocho, Miami Carnival, Hispanic Heritage Fest, among others. These festivals addressed music and art as a means of entertainment and a building block of vibrant cultures from the world over. Rockers Movement address these moral issues with a bonding of music and art, or music as art, our mission is truly to transform the world communities through inspired action, which help build self-reliance.
Rockers Movement is raising awareness and sharing knowledge through the arts! The people behind Rockers Movement, a premier event production company with over 15 years successful events to date, understand the importance of using the arts to stir social conscience, to actualize social change. That is precisely what they aim to accomplish with their first-rate festivals to empower each other to help people in need.
"It was important we started in our own back yard," said event organizer Alfonso D'Niscio Brooks. "1 in 6 Americans are at risk for hunger. It’s doubly important we not wait for a natural disaster to recognize the growing hunger epidemic, or to seek out ways to help our brothers and sisters." The simple truth is change is possible within one generation. We can be that generation. Whilst a great deal of today’s media paints a very negative picture of the world’s level of development, we share ‘tremendous success stories’ highlighting the reality: great progress is being made. A mixture of factors which has seen the decline including new technology, better policies, more sensible governing, aid and due to the work of the people themselves.
"Poverty knows no color, no creed," Brooks said. "That's why it was critical for us to ensure we offer a lineup that reflects the Miami landscape." Considering the current economic climate we have made the entry FREE before 3 p.m. with the food donation allowing everyone the opportunity to be a part of the event. Rockers Movement, in association with Fertile Earth Foundation, Unity is Change, Dade Recycling, Artecology Organization & Lady Green Recycling, is proud to promote the Zero Waste Initiative at Miami Reggae Festival. In a committed effort towards sustainability, the Reduce, Reuse, & Recycle model will be implemented to prevent trash and organic materials from going into landfills and incinerators, thus diverting over 20 tons of waste and greatly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The festival will also work food vendors to collect edible food items to feed people and food scraps to feed animals. Miami Reggae Festival is a family-friendly event featuring an artisan village of visual arts and handicrafts; various culinary vendors; an 'Artecology Experience,' offering interactive games for kids about sustainability, healthy living seminars and workshops, including AEROGA Yoga in the Park, meditation, and dance; plus drum sessions, and so much more. Festival officials and their media partners also are encouraging attendees to ride their bikes and make use of our bike valet or use public transportation to get to the festival. Do have a nice walk and enjoy the beauty Coconut Grove has to offer. There are so many things to do in Coconut Grove. From the The Barnacle Historic State Park, to the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. Coconut Grove is the perfect Rockers Movement haven of peace loving folks full of IRIE VIbes they live by the the laws of One Love. They are opening their town to us to share in the vibe and the spirit of One Love. Let's return the favor and tell them why their town ROCKS with an awesome event.
And it is just as important for the benefactor of the event to serve a diverse population, ensuring the core message of unity and humanitarianism. Event organizers chose TECHO! Keeping in the spirit of unity, attendees are asked to contribute two or more non-perishable food items as part of the cost of admission. Subsequently, a portion of proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to TECHO - a youth led non-profit organization at work in 19 countries including Latin American and the Caribbean. Through the joint work of families living in extreme hardship and youth volunteers, TECHO seeks to overcome poverty. 'Rockers Movement will amplify our message and continue to scream that Miami is committed to overcoming poverty,' says Nicolas Berardi, US CEO of TECHO. To date, the organization has mobilized more than half a million youth volunteers and built over 3,000 houses for families living in Latin American slums.
